1000 Vegan Recipes

Postby Gramma Jackie » Mon Oct 19, 2009 9:50 am

I just bought a new cookbook called 1000 Vegan Recipes by Robin Robertson. I haven't had time to try out any of the recipes yet, but it looks good. She credits Dr. McDougall and Dr. Baranard for encouraging people to eat healthy vegan meals. Some of her recipes do include oil and vegan margarine, but many are McDougall friendly.

Robin Robertson

Postby vgpedlr » Mon Oct 19, 2009 4:01 pm

I have Robin Robertson's Vegan Fire and Spice, and it is great! Virtually all of the recipes work by simply removing the oil. There are a few that use richer ingredients such as tofu, tempeh, seitan or coconut milk, but they can often be modified, or saved for special occasions. If you like spicy, this is it!

Honorable Mention:
Donna Klein's Tropical Vegan, even better that her Mediterranean cookbooks since there is less insitence on olive oil.

I just came across this post, and I realize it's pretty old, but also, very timely! :) :)

I just bought 1000 Vegan Recipes about a month ago, and I started a blog on how I am McDougallizing the recipes. I've only tested 18 so far, this will definitely be a long term project, but a very fun one!

I already mentioned this in another post on the lounge so this information isn't new - just thought I would repost it here since I found the thread on this specific book.

Thank you eaufraiche! I appreciate that!

Hehe, yes, my husband is enjoying this culinary adventure for the most part, but I think he might be getting tired of hearing me say "Don't eat that yet - I have to take a picture!"

I liked the sour cream! It is very close to the recipe I've been using for a while now. At first the tahini flavor seemed prominent, but as it sat for a while it mellowed out.

Yeah, I know that Saba hummus, it is just TOO good! And darned expensive - and it has oil, so it has to be off my list altogether! :?

Hi Patty! Thanks for checking out my blog, I appreciate it! It is a great mayo - if you end up getting the book, you have to try it. One of the recipes so far I haven't had to alter to make it McDougall compliant, too!
