So I'm pretty much out of the food I've cooked for myself since I was supposed to go shopping Wensday but have yet to go. I plan to cook some food tonight when it's cooler but there is a couple little problems. 1. That means about 4hrs of cooking so if I were to start at 8pm I'd be done at 12am whitch is sucky but doable. 2. I'm also supposed to finally go shopping tonight during said cooking time. I'm thinking some semi home-made food is in order for the next couple of days. So here's where my amazeing McDougall buddies come in.... I need suggestions for budget friendly/cheap meals in whitch their ingredients can be found at Walmart since that is the store where I'm supposedly going. I'm wondering if they have instant brown rice? You can do alot with rice and beans...

TIA
Audrey

Instant brown rice, canned tomatoes, canned beans and frozen mixed veg - Walmart should have all of those. Add the spices you like, curry, chile, italian - and you've got either stew or soup, if you add more liquid.

Also, if it's hot, black beans, corn and southwest seasoning make a simple cold salad.

There are lots of suggestions in the recipe section, in the 3-ingredients thread at the top.

Oooh I forgot all about the 3 ingredients thread. Thanks=D Off to go check it out. I love your salad idea. I can't bring myself to make a soup... maybe it's the weather... it's 105 today but salads sound perfect.

A nice salad: shredded carrots, raisins with juice from a lemon. Shredded cabbage, beets and apple is good too. I love Jeff Novick's basic bean burgers.. kidney beans, brown rice, oatmeal and salsa. I am sure you can find the measurements online. I always make a lot to freeze to have on hand.

Have fun McDougalling while being happy, joyous and free of food addiction:)

Aloha, patty

One of my favorite quicky meals is corn, black beans, brown rice and salsa. Yummy.

+1 for the fast food DVD. I make a big pot of it over the weekend and eat on it all week, I usually leave out the spice and just add some to the bowl or plate that I eat each meal, that way I don't get too bored.

The actual recipe (Quick Yummy Meal) for what shell1226 ref'd: http://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2005nl/august/050800recipes.htm.

Also here's a link to an old ('09) page of clickable MWL recipes: http://www.drmcdougall.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10076&hilit=butter+bean+casserole.

Maybe it's been updated since then.
